Questions & Answers

What is Clariyo, and how does it work?

Everything you want to know about Clariyo — what it is, what it does, and why it might be the most useful conversation you haven't had yet.

    Early Access
You're using a real, working product, not a demo. Early Access means we're actively improving Clariyo and we need real conversations to do it. Clariyo Unlimited, our paid tier, is now available.
Clariyo is free to try. Everyone gets one full conversation at no cost — up to 15 exchanges, room for a real back-and-forth. After that, Clariyo Unlimited is $13.99/month: unlimited conversations, no exchange limit per conversation, cancel anytime.
Use the thumbs up and thumbs down after every conversation. Tell us what landed and what didn't. Your feedback is the only way we know what's working — we can't see your conversations, so your rating and comment is all we have.
It might. That's part of this. If something feels off or doesn't work right, use the thumbs down and describe what happened. Every report helps us fix it before full launch.
No. Clariyo is a personal development tool — not a therapist, medical provider, or crisis service. If you're in crisis, call or text 988.
    What Clariyo is
No — and that distinction matters. Clariyo is not designed to diagnose, treat, or guide you toward any outcome. It asks questions and reflects what's already there. A therapist has clinical training and a treatment relationship with you. Clariyo has neither. What it does is help you see patterns you might not have named yet. That can feel like a lot — but it's not therapy. If you need mental health support, please contact a licensed provider.
Clariyo is an AI-powered self-reflection tool designed to help you notice patterns in your thoughts, reactions, and relationships — through conversation. It is not therapy. It is not advice. It is a mirror. A space where you can think out loud and start to see yourself more clearly. What you do with that is entirely yours. Including nothing.
Clariyo is not here to make you better or worse. It is here to help you see yourself clearly — the patterns, reactions, and habits that are already running beneath the surface. Most people never get a real look at how they actually are. Clariyo creates the space for that. Clarity doesn't guarantee change. Some people see a pattern and decide to shift it. Some see it and decide it's actually fine. Either way, the choice becomes conscious. That's what Clariyo is for.
Clariyo is a self-reflection tool informed by decades of books, frameworks, and learning materials from trusted educators, researchers, and thinkers in human behavior and psychology — combined with real lived experience across every kind of human moment. The kind of knowledge that only comes from actually going through things. Most people try to figure themselves out alone — in their head, in a journal, or in conversations that go in circles. Clariyo is different. Not here to tell you what to think. Here to help you hear yourself more clearly than you could on your own.
General AI assistants are built to answer questions and complete tasks. Clariyo is built for one specific purpose: helping you understand yourself. It is not built to search the web, write your emails, or give you information. It holds a reflective space, notices patterns in what you share, and helps you arrive at your own clarity — something general-purpose AI is not designed to do.
Therapy is one path. Clariyo is a different one, not a replacement for it. It's built for people who want to look at their own patterns, reactions, and habits without a clinical process attached. You talk, Clariyo reflects, and over time what's actually happening becomes easier to see. If what surfaces needs more support than a conversation can hold, that's exactly when a licensed provider matters more than an app.
No — and that's intentional. Journaling is you, alone, writing to yourself. Clariyo is a conversation: it listens, reflects, and asks the next honest question, rather than holding a page you fill in silence. A written page can keep circling the same thoughts. A conversation can move you somewhere you hadn't gotten to on your own.
Journaling is genuinely useful. Writing things down over time helps you spot patterns and get feelings out of your head. It's a long game, built around looking back. Clariyo works differently, not better or worse: it's a conversation happening in real time, not a blank page. Some people don't want to write in a vulnerable moment. They want to talk it through as it's happening, and moving through a thought in real time is a different experience than writing it down afterward.
    Patterns you might recognize
That's usually not about willpower. It's about a pattern you haven't fully seen yet. Repeated choices tend to run on autopilot, shaped by something underneath that's never been looked at directly. Clariyo won't tell you why you do it. But through conversation, the pattern can become clear enough that the choice stops feeling automatic. Once you see it, it's a choice again, not a reflex.
Relationship patterns tend to repeat because they're familiar, not because they're working. A reaction that shows up in one relationship often started long before it, and it keeps showing up until it's actually seen. Clariyo doesn't diagnose the pattern or tell you what it means. It holds space for you to notice it yourself, in your own words, until it's clear enough to do something with. Or not. That part is yours.
    How it works
You have a conversation. Clariyo listens, reflects, and responds in ways that help you slow down and notice what is actually happening inside. Over time, patterns in your thinking and reactions become clearer — not because Clariyo tells you what they are, but because you start to see them yourself. The insight belongs to you. So does the decision about what to do with it. Clariyo's job ends when the conversation does.
No. Clariyo is not designed to give advice, diagnoses, or quick fixes. Its role is to help you arrive at your own understanding. Research in psychology consistently shows that insights people reach themselves are more likely to stick than advice given to them. Clariyo is built around that principle. The understanding you arrive at is yours — not something handed to you.
Clariyo can help you notice anxiety patterns, identify emotional triggers, and understand habitual reactions — through reflection and conversation, not clinical treatment. It is trained on frameworks from performance psychology, nervous system regulation, attachment theory, and communication intelligence.
That is completely normal — and often a sign something real is being touched. Clariyo is designed to stay with you through difficult moments. Not to push, not to judge, and not to abandon the conversation. If something lands hard, Clariyo will acknowledge it and give you space. You set the pace.
Start a new conversation for each thing you're curious about. The longer a conversation runs and the more it drifts, the less focused Clariyo's reflection gets. Following one thing you're curious about keeps it sharp.
    Who it's for
Clariyo is for anyone who wants to understand themselves better. People who feel stuck in the same patterns. People who struggle in relationships and aren't sure why. People who want to grow but don't know where to start. People who just need a space to think without being judged or advised. You don't need to be in crisis to use it. Curiosity is enough. You don't have to use it every day. It's here when something feels off — and that's enough. Clariyo won't tell you who to be. But it might show you who you already are — more clearly than you expected.
Yes. Clariyo is designed to be a safe, warm, non-judgmental space. It is not a crisis line and is not a substitute for emergency mental health support. If you are in crisis, please reach out to a qualified professional or crisis service. For everyday reflection, emotional exploration, and self-awareness work, Clariyo is built to hold that space carefully.
Yes. You don't need a diagnosis, a crisis, or even a defined problem to use Clariyo, just something you're curious about or stuck on. A decision you can't get clear on, a reaction that doesn't make sense to you, a conversation that's still bothering you. Clariyo isn't built to treat conditions. It's built to help you think out loud until something becomes clearer. If what you're carrying needs more than a conversation can hold, a licensed provider is the better fit.
    What to expect
No. Clariyo is not designed to be a habit app and doesn't ask for streaks. Some people come back every day. Some come back when something feels off — a pattern that keeps repeating, a moment that doesn't sit right, a decision they can't get clear on. That's exactly what it's built for. It's here when you need it.
Discomfort is part of the process — it means something worth exploring is close. Clariyo is designed to guide you through hard conversations, not away from them. You are always in control of how deep you go. You can pause, change direction, or stop at any time. If you are ever in crisis, please call or text 988 — Clariyo is not a crisis service.
Clariyo is designed not to judge you — it guides you. Whatever you bring to a conversation, Clariyo's job is to help you understand it more clearly. There's no intended right or wrong answer, good or bad response. Honesty is the only thing that makes the work useful.
Clariyo is simple to use — what it asks of you may not be. The tool guides you through reflection one step at a time, at your own pace. You do not need any experience with therapy, journaling, or self-help. You just need to be willing to start.
It probably will. You might come in with a specific question and find the conversation moves toward something underneath it. That's not a detour — that's usually where the useful thing is. Clariyo isn't trying to solve your surface ask. It's built to follow what's actually present. You don't have to go anywhere you're not ready to go. But if something opens up, that's the tool working.
    Privacy & data
Your conversation lives in your browser first — it's designed to stay there until you clear your browser's site data or switch devices. When you send a message, it's processed through our AI infrastructure provider to generate a response; they state they meet recognized security and compliance standards, including SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, and GDPR alignment, with a zero data retention agreement on the AI model itself. If you rate a response using thumbs up or down, that specific reply is stored on our own servers, tied to a random device ID rather than your identity — so we can improve Clariyo. We do not sell your data, and our provider states it is not used to train AI models. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Your conversation history is designed to live only in your browser, not on our servers — so it's there if you come back on the same device, and gone once you clear your browser data or switch to a different device. If you've rated a response with thumbs up or down, that specific reply is stored separately, tied to a random device ID rather than your identity. Signing in doesn't change this. Your account only tracks your subscription, never what you said, so on a new device you'll have unlimited access but not your earlier conversations.
Share what you're thinking and feeling. That's what Clariyo is for. Leave out details that could identify you or someone else, like full names, addresses, phone numbers, or ID numbers, and skip financial details like bank or card numbers. A first name or "my sister" is plenty. It's a good habit with any AI tool.
    Support & account
Your conversations live only in the browser on the device where you had them. They won't appear on a different device or browser, in a private window, or after clearing your browser's site data. Signing in doesn't bring them back, and because Clariyo doesn't keep a copy, we can't restore them. Your subscription isn't affected. Sign in and you have unlimited access again.
Cancellations and refunds are handled by our trusted partner, Paddle. Give it a minute or two, then check your spam or promotions folder. Make sure the address is spelled correctly, then request a new link. Open the link on the same device where you asked for it. If it still doesn't arrive, email useclariyo@gmail.com from the address you signed up with.
Email useclariyo@gmail.com from your current sign-in address and tell us the new one. We'll update it for you.
Email useclariyo@gmail.com. You never need to include anything from your conversations to get help.
